Mission, Vision and Beliefs

Mission:

The Occoquan Elementary School Counseling Program empowers all students to strive for excellence as lifelong learners toward a thriving future. School counselors collaborate with and utilize the expertise and support of parents, teachers and administrators to ensure access and equity for all students to receive a quality education. 

Vision:

The Occoquan School Counseling Program will provide all students with the necessary tools and resources to succeed academically, socially and emotionally. Students will develop career and college readiness skills to ensure their success as productive citizens.

Beliefs and Philosophy:

As professional school counselors at Occoquan Elementary, we believe the following:

  • All students can learn.
  • All students can achieve success in a high achieving, nurturing and caring environment.
  • All students have the right to participate in the school counseling program.
  • All students should have access to a school counseling program that is comprehensive, preventive, and developmental with a multicultural perspective based on the ASCA (American School Counselor Association) National Model.
  • As state-certified, master's degree professionals, we provide equitable opportunities for all students to access resources for educational achievement and social/emotional growth.
  • We are proactive advocates for all students.
  • We are facilitators of positive interaction with students, administrators, teachers, parents and the community.
  • We will collaborate with administrators, staff, families and community resources to support student achievement and social/emotional growth.
  • We will use data for program development, evaluation, and improvement.
  • We will abide by the ethics and standards of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).
  • We will participate in professional development opportunities to maintain and deliver quality services to the school community.
